The Idea

It all started on a sunny day at Lake Balaton in August 2013. I was working in the UK at the time and spent my summer holiday at home. A couple of friends gathered together for a good day of cycling and talked about life: enjoying the moment, making plans, moving home and stuff like that. At some point one of them started joking: "Well, you should cycle home through Europe!"

That was it.

One word let to another and I noticed myself seriously considering the idea of cycling home from the UK. Why? Because 2200km of pedalling in a month is a challenge both physically and mentally. Because meeting new people and finding my path is fun. I will do the major part on my own - which I expect to be an interesting (and rather challenging) mental experiment. Because the route leads me through amazing sceneries in England, The Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, France, Germany again, Austria and Hungary.

And last but not least: as the plan started to get together it seemed like a good idea to draw attention to the problem of stray animals. These little ones are wandering the streets and would often need veterinary help - but can't have it, there is no one to take care of them. If you feel that you could help, please visit the Donation page (will be set up soon). All the donations will be spent on medication and food of animals in need.

As a veterinarian it is my profession and passion to help animals. If I can save only one of them with the help of the donations, it is already worth it. As a trainer and athlete I would like to give the joy and passion of sport to everyone. Encourage all of you to enjoy moving, enjoy your body - your body is not the "whole you", but it certainly shouldn't stop you from having fun!

I hope you will enjoy the blog. I plan to begin the journey at the beginning of June 2014. All are welcome to join me in any part of the adventure!

Even if you can't join me for any reasons, you can support the UK to HU Project by sharing. If you have any questions, advice or feedback, please comment or contact me (see contact page).

You're perfect.

See you on the road!
